PROGRESS!!!!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Well……………this has taken WAY TOO LONG!!!  But FINALLY we will let everyone know what has been going on with Gryphon since our arrival home.  God has been continually blessing us and Gryphon!  He has made great progress since we have been home!  He now has normal muscle tone in his upper body and can stand for about 10 seconds on his own.  He is also keeping his feet flat which makes the standing possible.  He is cruising around furniture.  His transitions are better from sit to stand.  His speech has improved dramatically.  Not only is he saying more words, but some of them are very clear now and his response is a lot quicker!  All of his therapist are pleased with the changes Gryphon has been making and we obviously are thrilled!  He did take a few steps independently, but has still only taken about 3 to 4 at a time.  His balance is a lot better, but still not stable and he is very apprehensive to walk as all children are.  He now can hug me pretty tight, when he wasn’t really able to before.  He would simply rest his head against me when I asked for a hug.  We are praying everyday for his complete healing however God decides to do so, but we still hold on to that HOPE and someday HOPE to return to China for more treatments if we feel he needs more in the future!  God holds us all in His hands and we are so GRATEFUAvila BeachL!!!!!  Praise be to HIM for His Never ending and Never failing LOVE!!!!

We have been on a few adventures here as well as our regular hospital adventure!  We are having a GREAT time and Gryphon has had a couple improvements…..he is doing better on his knees with balancing, he has said a few more words (like friends names here and maybe a couple chinese words according to his therapist Kerri) and he has been keeping his feet flatter for longer periods of time.  He even stood for a couple of seconds by himself!  Like I said before, usually all the changes come a few months after treatment.  We are looking forward to that!  May HIS blessings shine on you all! TREATMENTS Have Arrived!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Gryphon has had two treatments so far and has done so well!  One with IV and the other spinal.  We are excited to see what the future holds for him!  God has been so wonderful with our whole process and even the doctors are saying they can’t wait to see his progress.  They believe Gryphon is in the final process before being able to walk and talk.  After the course of 7 treatments they say it will be a couple of months and we should see results begin to happen.  They seem really excited about Gryphon and of course we are as well!  Jocelynn had a really hard time with Gryphon going for the spinal yesterday and we were surprised about that, but she is doing good now and we pray she will have an easier time as the treatments go on!  LOVE and MISS YOU ALL!!  God BlessThe First Treatment!

Welcome to the Hospital!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

We were admitted to the hospital today and Gryphon got to meet his therapist named Carrie.  We also found out his first treatment will begin on Friday and he will have therapy five days a week.  Physical therapy, Standing treatments and Electrical wave therapy to help reduce the tone in his muscles.  It will be interesting to see how well he adjusts to the new things.  Continue to keep us in your prayers, especially on thurs. for you because that’s when friday will be for us.  We have met many families, some from the US and a couple from outside and it’s nice to talk to them and find out kind of what to expect.  Their children have been really sick from the treatments for a couple days after, so pray, pray pray for Gryphon!!!  THANKS and we Love and Miss you all!  Oh and we had wonderful Pappa John’s Pizza yesterday :)  YUMMMMM!!Meeting my therapist Carrie!

WE MADE IT TO CHINA!

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

On May 7 at 8:00 p.m. we boarded

Just checking things out!

Just checking things out!

our first of three planes to get to Hangzhou, China.  On May 9 at 11:00 a.m. we left the airport in Hangzhou.  Gryphon and Jocelynn did great on all the flights.  God really answered our prayers with that.  We were held for “swine flue” questioning at the Hangzhou airport for about an hour.  Once we were free to go we had the great experience of lost luggage.  It was surprisingly easy to report the loss, and the airport found and returned it to us by the end of the day.  Rebecca, our patient representative, was there to meet us with a car to take us to our hotel.  Rebecca speaks english well and has been very helpful to us.  She checked us in to our hotel,  showed us around the area, took us to exchange money and has been great to work with.

We are staying at the JinJiang Inn just down the street from the hospital.  We unpacked and got a little settled in just in time to realize that the thermostat is not working.  So we went to the front desk explained that it was extremely hot in our room and they moved us a few doors down to a wonderfully cool room.  The staff at the inn are nice, but we have a hard time communicating with them.  Between the 4 of us we can come up with maybe 20 words in chinese, but they are mostly just greetings or goodbyes.

Today we did alot of sitting around, sleeping, and just trying to get the kids adjusted to the time here.  I think we have now, they were in bed at 9:00 tonight.  We also went walking in the area looking for places to eat.  We found a few, but after eating at 2 of them I think we need to keep looking.

Gryphon and Jocelynn are doing well.  Jocelynn wants to be back at home and misses school. So far she has only missed one day of school.  Gryphon is all over the hotel room climbing on the beds and chairs.  We went out to buy a few toys for him.  We got a small truck and 3 balls that cost less than 1 dollar but you wouldn’t know it if you saw the excitement in his face.

We check in at the hospital on Tuesday.  Rebecca will be helping us with that.  So from Tuesday on Aleesha and Gryphon will be staying at the hospital and Jocelynn and Mike will be in the hotel.

Thank you for the prayers
